I started the Trim Healthy Mama plan at the beginning of this year and experienced encouraging success (about 20 lbs.) considering I’m over 50 and my exercise routine mainly consists of yoga and running after my Jack Russell Terrier.
But sometime over summer break, I let my guard down and began cheating here and there. Soon my old cravings were back with a vengeance. I might have gained a pound or two back (my scale is broken) but that was enough for me to take a hard look at what I was doing and the direction I was going. I know diabetes is almost a given considering my genetic history. I don’t know that healthy habits mean complete prevention of diabetes, but it will still make a big difference in the need for meds even if it does happen.
Trying to do things differently, I’ve started keeping a food log in my bullet journal. I’m also going to be posting my log here on Saturdays. I think a little bit of accountability will help, and writing things down will help to firm up my resolve.
Setting strict meal plans at the beginning of the week hasn’t worked for me. What does seem to work is to have some set go-to meals (also in the bullet journal!) that I can refer to. My appetite and schedule fluctuate from day to day and this seems to be working.
So here’s how my week went. I know there’s some room for improvement but there are some days I can’t handle too many vegetables. Also, I love eggs and coffee. Note that I started on Tuesday and monthly visitor arrived on Thursday…hence the chocolate. Thank goodness for Lily’s!
