Welcome to my little online space. My name is Marya (pronounced like Mariah Carey) and I live in Florida with my husband and three of my younger children (16, 18 and 21.)
As a special needs mom with chronic illness (read my dystonia story here) I’ve learned a lot about juggling spoons (see The Spoon Theory) since my diagnosis in 2010. On these pages you can find hope and encouragement for a healthier mind, body and spirit.
A little more about me…our family has a lot of challenges on our plate but I am determined to live life to the fullest and find joy in each day no matter what my pain levels might be. Besides spending time with my family, I enjoy blogging and social media, my dogs, great food and yoga. I’ve been living alcohol free since 1986 and work everyday to overcome depression and anxiety as well as disordered eating issues. I believe that faith and natural health are key to living victoriously with the challenges in my life.
What I Do
My mission for this blog is twofold – to share my faith, experience, strength and hope to moms with chronic illness, special needs moms and sober moms. (I’m all three!)
As the mom of children with multiple diagnoses including CHD, Down Syndrome, Neurofibromatosis and learning disabilities, I also occasionally use this space to advocate for those whom society considers “the least of these” the developmentally disabled.
Naturally healthy living is extremely important to me as someone who is living with several chronic conditions and as a special needs mom of a young man with Down Syndrome who is now 16. I enjoy reading about natural health and fitness topics. I love yoga and it has improved my quality of life immensely since my dystonia diagnosis in 2010. I also love to cook and will spend my free time reading cookbooks and browsing food blogs!
Like many others in the chronic illness community, my dogs mean the world to me and are a big part of my coping toolbox. Also sharing our home are Belle the Aussie and Lily the Jack Russell.
